Technological advances for improving supply chain efficiency present three key challenges for managing goods: tracking, tracing and monitoring (TTM), in order to satisfy the requirements for products such as perishable goods where the European Legislations requires them to ship within a prescribed temperature range to ensure freshness and suitability for consumption. The proposed system integrates RFID for tracking and tracing through a distributed architecture developed for heavy goods vehicles, and the sensors embedded in the SunSPOT platform for monitoring the goods transported based on the concept of the Internet of Things. This paper presents how the Internet of Things is integrated for improving terrestrial logistics offering a comprehensive and flexible architecture, with high scalability, according to the specific needs for reaching an item-level continuous monitoring solution. The major contribution from this work is the optimization of the Embedded Web Services based on RESTful (Web of Things) for the access to TTM services at any time during the transportation of goods. Specifically, it has been extended the monitoring patterns such as observe and blockwise transfer for the requirements from the continuous conditional monitoring, and for the transfer of full inventories and partial ones based on conditional queries. In definitive, this work presents an evolution of the previous TTM solutions, which were limited to trailer identification and environment monitoring, to a solution which is able to provide an exhaustive item-level monitoring, required for several use cases. This exhaustive monitoring has required new communication capabilities through the Web of Things, which has been optimized with the use and improvement of a set of communications patterns.

After some years of postponed IPv6 adoption, in February 2011 the depletion of the central repository of IPv4 Internet addresses managed by the IANA finally motivated countries to walk down the road to the almost infinite address space provided by IPv6. The dependence of the global economy on the connectivity offered by Internet access has forced to start the long and complex process of IPv6 transition in all countries. While the basic technological aspects can be considered resolved, the expected coexistence of both protocols for a long time to come raises the need to coordinate actions at national and supranational levels. Governments have played in the past a tractor role in promoting new technological innovation supporting the evolution from industrial society to the knowledge society, so it is necessary that they exercise leadership once again in the transition to IPv6. This need has been identified as a priority by the European Union, which, in the "European eGovernment Action Plan 2011-2015", demanded governments to lead by example by taking "action to upgrade IPv6-relevant eGovernment infrastructure (portals, websites, applications etc.) and online services of public interest". In that sense, some European governments have already started their IPv6 transition, acquiring valuable knowledge about the challenges of the process. Among them, Germany, Spain, and Turkey have carried out, as part of the GEN6 project, three national pilots of transition to IPv6 focused on the upgrade of different elements of the eGovernment infrastructure: government networks, websites and services, and data centres. This booklet describes some relevant aspects of the IPv6 transition in eGovernment services, based on the experiences of these national pilots, which will help you to design your own way to IPv6.

In 2019, the new European Union (EU) cybersecurity regulation "Cybersecurity Act" ("CSA")1 entered into force to create a common framework for the certification of any information and communication technology (ICT) system, including products, services, and processes. In recent years, cybersecurity certification is gaining momentum as the baseline to build a structured approach to mitigate cybersecurity risks in the Internet of Things (IoT). This initiative is driven by industry, governmental institutions, and research communities, which have the goal to make IoT more secure for the end-users. In this survey, we analyze the current cybersecurity certification schemes, as well as the potential challenges to make them applicable for the IoT ecosystem. We also examine current efforts related to risk assessment and testing processes, which are widely recognized as the processes to build a cybersecurity certification framework. Our work provides a multidisciplinary perspective of a possible IoT cybersecurity certification framework by integrating research and technical tools and processes with policies and governance structures, which are analyzed against a set of identified challenges. Cybersecurity certification is a core notion to support the mitigation of cybersecurity risks of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). At the European Union (EU) level, the Cybersecurity Act establishes a common cybersecurity certification framework supporting the coexistence of different certification schemes across Member States. However, its realization needs to be sustained by technical approaches to enable ICT stakeholders from different sectors or countries to exchange cybersecurity information and evaluate the up-to-date security level of an ICT system throughout their lifecycle. Toward this end, we propose a blockchain-based platform using a novel interledger design, where ledgers associated with ICT artifacts, cybersecurity certificates, and vulnerabilities are interconnected. The main purpose is to leverage the advantages of blockchain in terms of distributed trust, transparency, and accountability, while at the same time coping with scalability, performance, and interoperability requirements. We analyze the impact of our platform in the current EU legislation and provide insights for its deployment. ; Peer reviewed
